Savage Attack by Dogs on Sheep

A savage attack by stray dogs took place on sheep in the Ardfarna area, just outside Bundoran, on Christmas day. A number of ewes were lost in the attack. One flock was so terrorised that 15 sheep took refuge from the dogs in a freezing river. The attack took place at daybreak, and its ferocity and savagery has angered local farmers. Mary T. Gallagher from Ardfarna said that ;

“regrettably this is a problem which happens year after year and I just wonder will dog owners ever learn and take responsibility for their so called “pets”. These “pets” are actually killers and unfortunately once they do it, they will do it again”

She said that because of blood and wool residue owners could not be unaware of their dog’s behaviour and she urged them to put down any dog engaging in this horrific activity. Farmers are on alert, and have stated that if these dogs return they will be dealt with permanently. As this is only the start of the lambing season farmers are appealing to dog owners to keep their pets confined at night and to be aware of their movements during daylight hours.
