Are You Brave Enough To Do The Five Peaks?

Special Olympics Connaught are now looking for participants to take on the challenge of climbing the five highest mountains in the province this September – in 36 hours. That’s 10,500 ft of:

Ben Bulben,

Nephin,

Diamond Hill,

Croagh Patrick and

Truskmore.

Michael Carty from Special Olympics said “This event started in 2014 and is now an annual event in the Special Olympics fundraising calendar. It will see participants of all fitness levels climb five mountains through spectacular scenery in Connaught while raising money for Special Olympics. We normally run this challenge in April, and we were so overwhelmed by the demand in May that we decided to go again in September.” The challenge takes place on Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th September. If you would like to take part on this challenge, participants need to raise a minimum of €445. Once you register, you will receive your fundraising pack which will include a list of fundraising event suggestions along with tips and hints on how to organise and promote your event, along with setting up a Fundraising Page.

Included in the cost is all transport and accommodation, food, professional guides taking the participants up each mountain, followed by a celebratory meal after the last challenge.

There will also be shower and changing facilities at the Radisson Blu hotel and you will receive a Special Olympics t-shirt too.

People who took part in the event last May said that they were thrilled with how well it was run and delighted to say they had comleted the challenge.

This is a perfect way to do something fun while also helping to raise money for Special Olympics Connaught, who are based in Sligo.

There are two Special Olympics athletes travelling to compete in the World Games in July. Thomas Connolly and Margaret Carr will be flying the flag for Sligo at the prestigious competition.
