Ballyshannon Mart reopened on Tuesday, 25/02/2014 under the management of Andrew Mc Shea, with a very well attended evening sale. A state of the art IT system has been installed as part of Ballyshannon Cattle Sales Co-Op Ltd. commitment to the Mart.
Approx. 300 farmers attended the sale and trade was brisk. Over 200 cattle, comprising calves, dry cows, bullocks and weanlings were sold.
Buyers came from places as diverse as North Donegal, Cavan, Leitrim, Sligo and Roscommon.
A new auctioneer Jonathan Lucas from Stranorlar wielded the gavel and impressed all.
The emphasis was on quality and prices reflected those nationwide.
The organising sub-committee of John Barron, Andrew Mc Shea, Paddy Gillespie, Lawrence Mc Manus, Patsy Cassidy and Philip Mc Groarty are to be congratulated.
Lawrence Mc Manus summed up the general feeling when he said, “It’s great to have our own mart thriving again”
The next mart is on March 18th 2014
Subsequent marts will take place on the first and third Tuesday of each month
