Donegal-based farm management software start-up Farmflo has announced that it has been selected to join Microsoft’s Accelerator Programme in London.
The Accelerator Programme is a global initiative led by Microsoft Ventures to support a small group of high-potential start-ups. The programme also has dedicated hubs in Bangalore, Beijing, Berlin, Paris, Seattle and Tel Aviv.
As part of the programme, Farmflo will receive 1:1 mentoring from Microsoft‘s business, tech and marketing experts, as well as being given access to Microsoft services such as Azure Cloud – the company’s cloud computing platform and infrastructure – which is worth £500,000 (approx. €675,000) to Farmflo over the next three years, and will see over 60 new jobs created in the Irish agritech sector.
Farmflo, an award winning farm management software start-up that enables farmers to easily collect and harvest their farm’s data, now employs 12 people and has offices in Letterkenny and Glasgow. Its primary functions are to provide farmers with a more straightforward way to record information for their compliance and traceability reporting, and to help them make informed decisions based on accurate, real-time data.
The company was founded in 2012 by brothers Jason Devenney, a software developer, and Gareth Devenney, a fourth generation farmer, to find an easier way to tackle the time-consuming paperwork and administration that goes hand-in-hand with modern farming.
Jason Devenney said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for Farmflo, and it’s humbling that a tech giant such as Microsoft is getting behind us. Sustainable agriculture is going to become increasingly important in the coming years, with farmers needing to make their farms more productive to feed our planet’s growing population. Our aim is to support farmers in producing more with their finite resources, and ensuring consumers know exactly where their food comes from.”
