Donegal Farmers to Receive Support in September

Disadvantaged area payments are to be paid out on 23rd September for Irish farmers.

At a recent charter of rights meeting, the IFA insisted that the payment of Disadvantaged Areas, worth €200m for 95,000 farmers across the country, must be received as soon as possible. This call is in relation to the serious cash-flow difficulties facing many farmers.

Donegal IFA County Chairman PJ Mc Monagle said that the;

“pay-out of all direct payments including Disadvantaged Areas, 50% advance of the Single Farm Payment on October 16 and the payment of all REPS 4 and AEOS are of vital importance for the viability of thousands of farmers.”

He went on to say: “there must be no delay in payments in 2013 given the high costs that farmers have had to endure throughout the year as well as the carryover effect of 2012.”

Many farmers will be hoping that the Minister for Agriculture Simon Coveney will push for a continuation of farming supports. The IFA are hoping that the department’s focus will be on the implementation of a meaningful agri-environment scheme and strong support for the Disadvantaged Areas highlighted in the Rural Development Plan 2014-2020.
