Farmer Hugh Forde from Kiltimagh said that he couldn’t believe it when five of his 13 cows give birth to twins.

“I couldn’t believe it. It has never happened before. Most years there was one or two sets of twins but never this. It’s very rare for me anyway.

“There was only one set of heifers and the other four twins were evenly shared,” he told Independent.ie

Hugh, who has been farming for more than 30 years,  is putting his good surprise fortune down to a bull he bought from a nearby town two years ago.

“I bought a bull in Balla, a little town beside me, from Robert Duffy less than two years ago. There was a line of twins in his breed so that’s the only explanation I have for it,” he continued.

All of the cows are the Charolais breed and were delivered safely.
