Free Training Opportunity for Local Citizens with Donegal County Council

Introduction to the EU funded LADDER Project

In order to provide you with some background to the LADDER Project and to determine why this training opportunity is relevant to you, I would like to provide you with some information.

Background:

The Ladder project stands for Local Authorities as Drivers for Development Education and Awareness Raising, otherwise known as (DEAR).

DEAR is an EU Programme that aims to inform EU citizens about development issues, mobilise greater public support for actions against poverty, give citizens tools to engage critically with global development issues, to foster new ideas and ultimately to change attitudes.

Donegal County Council is one of 26 co-applicants on the project and is the only Irish Local Authority participating in the project together with 20 associate partners from 18 EU and 17 non-EU countries.

Project Aim & Objectives:

The overall aim of the Ladder project is to seek to enhance and increase the participation of Local Authorities in EU DEAR policies and ultimately to raise awareness of global issues and engage citizens locally.

In order to achieve this aim a number of objectives have been identified:

1.       Strengthen the capacity of Local Authorities and Civil Society Organisations to act as drivers for development.

2.       Develop co-operation between Local Authorities and Civil Society Organisations.

3.       Inform and engage citizens in global issues.

4.       Improve DEAR methods in non-formal education.

Training outcomes:

The training on offer will provide you with an opportunity to:

·         Develop your understanding of the concepts of DEAR

·         Be enthusiastic about DEAR

·         Have the ability to link global issues to local realities

·         Have the ability to formulate DEAR projects and apply for a grant scheme to assist in the development of project ideas.

The project is primarily based around incorporating the 17 Sustainable Development Goals into the actions of Local Authorities and other Civil Society Organisations and this training will provide you with an opportunity to explore the sustainable development goals in greater detail with a view to incorporating them into what we all do.  It is an opportunity to ensure that actions taken locally consider the impact that they are having on a global level and vice versa how the global scenario should inform decision taken locally and in particular the impact that these decisions have on local citizens.

Please note:

         The training is free of charge.

         It is imperative that participants commit to attending both of the training days in their preferred location.
