MED Treasurer Gerry Ferguson gives this brief outline of his recent trip to the Royal Highland Show organised by the Ballyshannon Show Committee, which also included several other MED members.
Day1: The trip took place from 18th to 21st of June. A coach departed from the Market Yard, Ballyshannon at 7.30am, and crossed to Scotland, Belfast to Cairnryan by Stena line ferry.
On arrival we booked into the Hilton Hotel in Edinburgh. Wives and partners were impressed by the opulence. Food and drink were excellent and good value.
Day2: Visited the Royal highland show, (tickets were included in the trip price). I was very impressed by the quality of the cattle on show. I thought the Angus cattle were getting a little too big. The weather was excellent, and as a result the attendance was huge.
Day3: Some of the wives and partners went on a sightseeing tour of Edinburgh. They enjoyed the historic city and got to see it at it’s best in bright sunshine, although I returned to the show. It was my experience that the personnel on the stands were willing to deal and went to great lengths to answer questions.
The show more than justified it’s reputation as a premier event and I would love to attend it again as part of an organised trip, if some sponsorship could be secured from Rural Funding Groups.
Plans are already afoot for a repeat trip in 2015. If you are interested contact Show Committee Secretary Alvin Barrett as soon as possible.
Gerry also jokingly said that there was great value in green wellies.
