A major transatlantic conference will be held in Donegal

The second annual Drew University Transatlantic Connections Conference is a unique, multi-disciplinary conference embracing the connections between Ireland and the United States.

It will be held in Bundoran from January 15th-18th, and offers the opportunity to enjoy discussions, debates and discourse on the ties that bind people together.

The conference is a collaboration between Drew University and the Institute of Study Abroad Ireland, which is based in Bundoran. The Conference is unusual in that it is open to the Irish public, and there is a full program of cultural activity and entertainment timetabled as part of the conference. It is a place where scholars and researchers can meet artists, writers, local historians and practitioners  of the history and culture we aim to document.

To launch the week-long event, on Monday January 12th, at 7.30pm, Drew University will present a Peace-Maker award to Mr. Niall O’Dowd at the Teacher’s Club, Parnell Square, Dublin. Guest speakers will include Minister Joe McHugh, Professor Christine Kinealy, Humanitarian Don Mullan, and Mary Lou McDonald.

Conference delegates from the USA will spend a few days visiting the border counties, and the conference itself begins on Thursday January 15th at the Atlantic Apartotel in Bundoran, CountyDonegal.

The  keynote speakers on Jan 15, 16 & 17 will be Don Mullan, Christine Kinealy, Mick Moloney  and Theo Dorgan.

Each of the speakers is well known for their  humanitarian work and activism on behalf of the disadvantaged on either side of the Atlantic. Each speaker has also made a valuable contribution to our understandings of aspects of Irish History and Culture, and its relationship to the United States
