My name is Patsy Cassidy and I farm in Ardlongfield near Ballyshannon, Co. Donegal. I specialise mainly in weanlings and sucklers.
This week I had hoped to begin drainage work on a seven acre patch of land which is consistently wet, as I will need this extra grazing later in the year. This had to be put on hold because of the thunderstorms last week.
I have been washing and repairing cattle sheds instead, essential work.
Calving has been over since January. At present I have 16 cows and 10 heifers in calf. These are all due to calve between September and December 2012, so autumn will be a busy time.
I hope to get to reseeding this week, weather permitting. It is good to see cattle prices improving.
