Native and Traditional Breeds Weekend at Ulster Folk and Transport Museum

The UlsterFolk & TransportMuseum continues its celebration of farming animals throughout the summer with the annual Native and Traditional Breeds Weekend, taking place on Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 August.

Organised in partnership with the Traditional Farm Livestock Foundation, this will be the fourth year that the farming community and visitors will come together to admire the livestock that resides on the farm including traditional breeds of cattle, horses, pigs, poultry and sheep.

A wide range of Northern Ireland’s more unusual breeds will be trotting and clucking around the museum including Irish Moiled cattle, Leicester long wool sheep, Clydesdale horses and the Gloucestershire old spot pigs.

Visitors to the UlsterFolk & TransportMuseum can also learn the background of these fascinating breeds as experts will be on hand to share the history of the animals.

The weekend is also the chance for family pets to take the limelight, as visitors are encouraged to bring along their family pets and enter them in the dedicated Pet Corner on Sunday 18 August.

There will also be a display of Irish Wolfhounds from the Irish Wolfhound Club of Northern Ireland that will enlighten visitors on this beautiful breed of dogs, and the wolves from which they descend.

Anyone visiting the UlsterFolk & TransportMuseum this weekend can also purchase a range of traditional crafts from the craft stalls and also traditional meats from the on-site butcher’s shop .

Robert Berry, farm manager at the UlsterFolk & TransportMuseum, commented: “This is a great event for all the family and made even more special with the launch of Discovery Farm earlier this year. This ever popular weekend is ideal for all the family as children greatly enjoy getting up close to all the different breeds of animals with pet corner a firm favourite too.”

The event runs from 10am to 5pm on each day, major event day pricing is applicable. For more information visit www.nmni.com/uftm or call 028 9042 8428.
