There remains a palpable anger in Belleek this week, as protestors took to the streets over the decision by Bank of Ireland to close its doors for the last time within sixty days of informing customers of that decision.
Amongst those who are supporting their campaign in Northern Ireland First Minister, Arlene Foster, who is expected to join protestors on Friday, in solidarity with the current impasse.
One of the things that galls Bridie Gormley, Chairperson of the Belleek Chamber of Commerce is the “total indifference and lack of caring” by the bank, in their dealings with locals.
“We are the community that is furthest from a bank, than any other in Northern Ireland, in travelling to Enniskillen. We have already had meetings with politicians who are fighting our case. The First Minister has had meetings with the Chief Executive of the Bank. I also had a meeting with them and in all honesty, they showed us so little respect, it was unbelievable,” she said.
