Rural Enterprise Skillnet Sheep Shearing Course

Rural Enterprise Skillnet Sheep Shearing Course on Arthur Bredin’s Farm, Manorhamilton, Co. Leitrim

Congratulations to all 16 trainees , mostly novices, who completed the 2 day City and Guilds sheep shearing course on Thursday 24th and Friday  25th of May  2012 in glorious weather.  The trainees sheared over 350 sheep and all participants achieved at least Blue seal level, four achieving bronze seal level. The training offers City and Guilds awards to Blue, Bronze, Silver and Gold Seals to trainees, depending on their ability and is part funded by Rural Enterprise Skillnet.

Many thanks to Arthur  Bredin  and family for hosting the event, to Dessie Mc Nulty and Francis Flanagan for providing the sheep, to tutor George Graham and his assistants Brendan Graham and Denis O Sullivan (Kenmare).

Thanks to all the trainees for attending and providing equipment. A special feature of this year’s event was the gear and sharpening course. Many young shearers were very interested to learn more about care and maintenance of their equipment.

Tutor George Graham said “I am delighted with the progress which the trainees made over the two days and I look forward to seeing at least 5 of the trainees competing in the All Ireland novice shearing competition, which takes place on the June Bank Holiday week end.”
