Key Points:
- It is estimated that around 23% of the Irish population are on Twitter. We have the 10th highest number of Twitter users per capita worldwide. Twitter is similar to text messaging, except you are sending your texts to a public audience. Users write what are called “Tweets” which are limited to 140 characters.
- “Hash Tagging” is also another popular function within Twitter. For instance, if you want to send a tweet about your opinion about badger culling and you want it to be seen by as many people as possible, you would put the hash-tag symbol before the words and remove all the spaces e.g. (Hashbadgerculling). The hash- tag function makes searching for comments about a specific subject significantly easier. Twitter is useful to businesses from a marketing point of view and for establishing their brand online.
