Tynedale Farm which specializes in producing high quality goat meat is located in County Antrim, on the side of Divis Mountain, with stunning views overlooking Lough Neagh and the countryside beyond.
Home to Tynedale Goats since March 2012, the business is owned and run by Sarah Long and William Haire. William is well known to MED members as many have visited his beef farm and he has been a keynote speaker at several MED events.
They both come from strong farming backgrounds and met through the Nuffield Farming Scholarship Trust, where their studies into beef gave them an opportunity to travel widely and allowed them to investigate new opportunities for the farm. Through the scholarship they met fellow Nuffield scholars who inspired their journey into goat keeping and they decided to explore the idea further. The results persuaded them that there is a strong and emerging market for goat kid meat in the UK and Ireland.
At Tynedale, they are passionate about sustainable farming. they rear male kid goats (unwanted by dairy breeders) until the age of six months, after which they send prime young stock to be processed by the award-winning Hannan Meats, Northern Ireland’s largest supplier of gourmet meat to top restaurants and hotels.
With support from leading Ulster chefs, Tynedale Goats has already grown from an initial trial of 10 kids to over 200 in less than a year, and goat kid meat is now outselling lamb in some Northern Irish restaurants!
